    There's a strange tension in how we talk about metabolic health right now in 2026. On one side, GLP-1 medications are reshaping obesity medicine faster than almost anything, at least in my lifetime. On the other side, more and more people are getting their health information from social media, where nuance tends to be the first casualty and where the loudest voice usually wins over the most accurate one. At a time when we have some of the best interventions available to humankind to turn our health around, we're also increasingly being sold things based on half-truths, storytelling, and fabrications of the evidence. My guest today sits right in the middle of this, and that's why I wanted to talk to him. Dr. Mauricio Gonzalez, or Dr. Mau, as millions know him by, is an internal medicine physician currently completing a fellowship in endocrinology and one of the most followed doctors in the Spanish-speaking world. He's built that community and earned its trust by translating rigorous science into something people can actually use. In this conversation, we get into how he actually treats patients in the real world, when diet comes first and when a medication does, how to eat well on a GLP-1, the striking new data on these drugs and the liver, and where he thinks the diet wars, both low carb and plant-based alike, get it wrong.
