Oscar Piastri Exclusive: The Mindset Secrets of F1's Calmest Driver (E406)

4/27/202650 min

Oscar Piastri is a name synonymous with composure, but beneath the calm exterior lies a driver with a quietly radical approach to the pinnacle of motorsport. Recorded at the heart of the McLaren Technology Centre, this episode takes us inside the clinical, high-performance world of the young Australian as he navigates his rise through the F1 ranks.

In this episode, Oscar reveals the psychological framework behind his success, explaining why he measures performance by control rather than results. He discusses the "honest brutality" of his mental training and the exact moment his mindset shifted from hoping for wins to knowing they were inevitable.

Beyond the data, Oscar also opens up about the complex social architecture of the paddock. He reflects on the unsentimental line between respect and friendship, and the fragile internal dynamic with Lando Norris that very nearly turned poisonous.

This episode offers an unfiltered look at F1’s future, from "refreshing" FIA collaborations to Oscar’s blunt, five-word verdict on the 2026 cars. It is a deep dive into the mind of a driver who isn’t just racing in F1, he’s deconstructing it.

[gentle music] Right, if I asked you at 14, "Do you believe you'll be a Formula 1 driver or an F1 world champion?" What would you have said?

  2. Oscar Piastri· Guest0:09

Honestly, probably no. [upbeat music] I just wanted to race cars for a living. I try and look at it from a very realistic point of view. I knew that as long as I got close to my potential, that I could win, win races. [upbeat music] Having respect for one another and being friends with one another are two very different things. Realistically, I probably only had to beat Lando. Obviously, Max was back in the picture later in the year. 24 times a year, you've got to go on track and prove that you're better than them.

  3. Jake Humphrey· Host0:38

Do you believe you will one day be a Formula 1 world champion? [upbeat music] Oscar, welcome to High Performance.

  4. Oscar Piastri· Guest0:45

    Thank you.

  5. Jake Humphrey· Host0:46

Well, here we are. Another season of F1 is underway. Um, I'm always interested when I've watched someone like you come through from the junior formula, and now here you are, and this is the first time you and I have had a chance to sit down and chat.

  6. Oscar Piastri· Guest0:55

    Mm.

  7. Jake Humphrey· Host0:55

Like, how is this life compared to the dream you had for it when you were a, an 11-year-old sitting in a go-kart?

  8. Oscar Piastri· Guest1:02

Um, there's a lot of elements that are just as cool- Yeah ... as you would think. Like, you know, when you generally take a step back and think about what I'm doing, it's pretty cool. Uh, driving the fastest cars in the world. I think what is different, like, there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work. There's obviously the hard work that goes in on kind of an engineering and performance side of things. There's obviously all the
