  1. Stuart Phillips· Host0:00

Y- have you guys met Marty? Have you- No ... so have you, have you been to his office? There's organized and clean, and then there's Marty Gabala organized and clean.

  2. Martin Gibala· Host0:08

[laughs] I think it would be fantastic to have a segment that's called Stu's Rant, because invariably Stu gets upset about something, and we can just let him rant a little bit on a particular topic.

  3. Stuart Phillips· Host0:19

[upbeat music] How strong can we, can we really get?

  4. Martin Gibala· Host0:30

    Yeah.

  5. Stuart Phillips· Host0:30

How much muscle can we get? This is the real deal.

  6. Martin Gibala· Host0:32

    Yes.

  7. Stuart Phillips· Host0:33

And w- we, we think we're the right people to talk about it.

  8. Martin Gibala· Host0:36

Yeah. If you conflate zone two with moderate intensity training- Yes ... there's a ton of evidence- Yeah ... on the benefits of that.

  9. Stuart Phillips· Host0:44

    Yeah.

  10. Martin Gibala· Host0:44

There's almost zero research- Yeah ... on zone two.

  11. Stuart Phillips· Host0:47

Yeah. I met Marty Gabala a long time before we became colleagues. Uh, Marty had hair, [laughs] uh, at the time, and he was doing some stuff related to muscle ultra-structural damage.

  12. Martin Gibala· Host0:59

Both of us had left post-doctoral opportunities elsewhere to come back to McMaster because we'd heard that a position might be coming available here, and they hired both of us literally on the same day, and we've shared a laboratory ever since.

  13. Stuart Phillips· Host1:15

Marty's one of the top people in the world as far as high intensity interval training is concerned. He's it. He's, he's Mr. HIIT. Marty would be known as a, a tremendously rigorous scientist, great integrity.

  14. Martin Gibala· Host1:28

    Stu's a major player
