The Zane Lowe Interview Series Was this all part of the plan?

  2. Yeat· Guest0:02

Definitely all part of the plan, for sure.

  3. Zane Lowe· Host0:05

Remember the first time I met you, I think it was at The Roxy. Remember that night?

  4. Yeat· Guest0:08

Yeah, it was a crazy night. Didn't, didn't get to perform.

  5. Zane Lowe· Host0:11

You did not get to perform. It was definitely a few thousand, 5,000 kids out the front.

  6. Yeat· Guest0:16

    Mm-hmm.

  7. Zane Lowe· Host0:16

It felt like something really important was happening at that moment, but it was just the start.

  8. Yeat· Guest0:19

    100%.

  9. Zane Lowe· Host0:20

Who was that kid that I met backstage that night? When you think about that guy just for a split second, who was he versus who you are now, man?

  10. Yeat· Guest0:26

I feel like back then it was more, like, me just getting out the gate, figuring everything out, seeing it all. Also, that night was a crazy night 'cause it was, like, first time where I was like, saw how real everything was.

  11. Zane Lowe· Host0:42

    Mm.

  12. Yeat· Guest0:42

You know what I mean? It was like, yo, I'm gonna do this show at The Roxy. Everyone pull up. I didn't think me saying, "Oh, free tickets," that it was gonna be like that, and then to end up on the news. The, like, rapper heat shuts down, uh, whatever, Sunset. And I didn't even get to perform, but, like, then it, it really put everything in perspective for me. I'm like, man, this is really, like, a movement. Like, for real. I felt, like, the real, like, perspective of it, like, started from that, like, point.

  13. Zane Lowe· Host1:12

And you haven't stopped working since.

  14. Yeat· Guest1:14

    Mm-mm. I never stop.

  15. Zane Lowe· Host1:16

Yeah, I think the consistency as well as the quality of the music that you put out, I think, is, is... it speaks a lot to, to us as fans and to all your fans, is that, you know, you, even if you haven't got something that's following the last thing, there's always a sense that you're working on that thing.
