    [upbeat music] Hello, and welcome to Oh God, What Now?, the politics podcast that is personally begging Wes Streeting to wait until we finish recording before he does anything stupid. I'm Zoe Grunewald. On today's show, sleeves rolled up, top button undone, designer glasses polished. Keir Starmer strode up to the podium looking like a man who absolutely does not need a leaving do, thank you very much. In a defiant address to the nation, he insisted he was staying put in Number 10, but his party had other ideas. What started as a trickle of resignation calls quickly became a torrent. With cabinet ministers now publicly calling for Starmer to set a timetable for his departure, it really felt like the jig was up. But then a reprieve. One hundred loyal MPs signed a statement backing the PM. Key cabinet ministers stayed put. Andy Burnham was unable to clear the insurmountable hurdle of finding a parliamentary seat, and Wes Streeting appeared to chicken out at the very last moment.
