When A Crappy Husband Makes A Great TV Show

4/22/202648 min

First, a rundown of the scurrilous gossip you missed while you were actually working: Sydney Sweeney’s cameo’s been cut from The Devil Wears Prada 2, Harry Styles is either engaged or ring-baiting us and Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton have hard-launched with a pap-frolic.

In other business, why is Reese Witherspoon suddenly telling all her followers to use AI? Is this a genuine attempt to close the gender tech-gap, or is Reese just the friendliest face the robots could recruit to crack Gen X?

In other business, we might be witnessing the most effective character-assassination comeback in history. While Lily Allen is currently touring an album that provides a literal receipt-by-receipt rundown of her marriage breakdown — complete with props explaining David Harbour’s alleged infidelity — her ex is busy being the most lovable man on TV in DTF St. Louis. Holly asks if playing someone lovable is the best way to rehabilitate an actor’s bad reputation? Let’s ask Noah Wyle and Adam Driver.

What can one of the world’s richest women (by marriage) tell us about happiness? No, please don’t throw your phone, Clare’s all ears for Lauren Sanchez Bezos’s gratitude tips.

And finally, we need to talk about the absolute tailspin that occurs when a Gen Z coworker compliments an older coworker’s outfit. Is it genuine praise, or a calculated power move? Amelia’s diving into millennial fashion anxiety and why a simple 'I love your jeans' can feel like a personal attack.

First 90 seconds
  1. Holly Wainwright· Host0:00

[upbeat music] Out Louders, this is Mamamia Out Loud, what women are actually talking about, and we are also the number one show in Australia for the third month in a row. Crowd goes wild. Wow.

  2. Amelia Lester· Host0:14

    We have become insufferable.

  3. Clare Stephens· Host0:15

    Yeah.

  4. Amelia Lester· Host0:15

We're just walking around telling everyone- [laughs] ... this fact.

  5. Clare Stephens· Host0:18

They call us Australia's answer to Joe Rogan.

  6. Holly Wainwright· Host0:20

    [laughs] [laughs] Do they?

  7. Clare Stephens· Host0:21

They call us Australia's answer to Call Her Daddy.

  8. Holly Wainwright· Host0:23

    Oh, yes.

  9. Clare Stephens· Host0:24

They do. They really do. I don't know who they are.

  10. Holly Wainwright· Host0:26

I have a great deal in common with Alex Cooper. [laughs] Anyway, what happened is, is that as regular Out Louders will know, once a month a, a chart gets released that shows the most listened to shows. Not necessarily the n- most downloads, it's the most number of listeners, right? And we made a joke when we were, when we made it to number one for the first time in January, that it was only because Hamish and Andy had gone on holiday. They're our nemesiseses.

  11. Clare Stephens· Host0:48

    Nemesi.

  12. Holly Wainwright· Host0:49

    Nemesi.

  13. Clare Stephens· Host0:49

[laughs] [laughs] I don't know if that's a word. They- They are our nemesi.

  14. Holly Wainwright· Host0:53

But now it's been three months running and they are back, and they are firing, and we are still number one, and it's only because of you Out Louders.

  15. Amelia Lester· Host1:00

    Thank you.

  16. Holly Wainwright· Host1:01

We know that. Thank you. We are so proud. I'm Holly Wainwright.

  17. Amelia Lester· Host1:05

    I'm Amelia Lester.

  18. Clare Stephens· Host1:07

    And I'm Clare Stephens.

  19. Holly Wainwright· Host1:08

And here's what's made our agenda for today. The redemption of David Harbour. Yes, the man who Lily Allen outed as a butt plug enthusiast- [laughs] ... is now one of the most loved characters on television. We unpack.

  20. Amelia Lester· Host1:23

Plus, we're unpacking why it can feel weird when your coworker compliments your outfit.
