I was once the government's drug czar, and I was sacked. Hofmann's boss was a German chemist with allegiances to the Nazis. So Hofmann's boss gave the Nazis the first LSD. The Americans didn't really know about this until they got to Dachau. They just opened the suitcase, several million dollars, and so they got it and they took it back. The idea was you would get Russians, and you would give them LSD, and they'd turn into God-fearing, card-carrying, flag-waving Americans. MKUltra was about the military. They were experimenting not just with using psychedelics to facilitate indoctrination, but of course, they were also interested in psychedelic weapon of war. You're going about your daily life, and then someone has spiked you with LSD, and you think you're going mad. Most of the records were destroyed.
