we love our Pre Main Sequence Stars
6/1/202641 min
Don't feel bad if you take a long time to get ready for a night out... stars spend millions of years getting ready for hydrogen fusion! This week, Moiya explains to Connie what's keeping the baby stars busy all that time.

About Us
Pale Blue Pod is an astronomy podcast for people who are overwhelmed by the universe but want to be its friend. Astrophysicist Dr. Moiya McTier and her best friend ConStar demystify space one topic at a time with open eyes, open arms, and open mouths (from so much laughing and jaw-dropping). By the end of each episode, the cosmos will feel a little less “ahhh too scary” and a lot more “ohhh, so cool!” New episodes every Monday.
Pale Blue Pod is a member of the Multitude Collective.

[upbeat music] Welcome to Pale Blue Pod, the astronomy podcast for people who are overwhelmed by the universe but wanna be its friend.
Moiya McTier· Host0:30
Hey, everyone. I'm Dr. Moya McTier, an astrophysicist, folklorist, and friend to the universe, and some of the people who inhabit it, like my co-host.
Connie Gibbs· Host0:37
[laughs] I am so glad to inhabit this earth with you, Moya. Uh- Mm ... I am Connie, and I am your friend, and I am trying to be a friend to the universe.
Moiya McTier· Host0:46
Bestie, we've covered this. You're not just trying. [laughs] You are doing.
Connie Gibbs· Host0:50
I am. I am. You're so right. You're so right.
Moiya McTier· Host0:52
Mm-hmm. Yes. And, uh, one of the ways that we are getting you closer to the universe today is by teaching you, introducing you more to pre-main sequence stars.
Connie Gibbs· Host1:04
Okay.
Moiya McTier· Host1:04
Does, does that mean anything to you when I say that?
Connie Gibbs· Host1:07
[laughs] You know, it's like pre is before something- Right ... and then there's the sequence, whatever that is. [laughs] And so these are the stars before the sequence, and I'm gonna say that the sequence is fusing hydrogen, or is it already fusing hydrogen?
Moiya McTier· Host1:25
Yes. Yeah, no, that is- Okay, great ... exactly right, bestie.
Connie Gibbs· Host1:28
Great. Okay.
Moiya McTier· Host1:29
The- Okay, I got there.
