[upbeat music] All right, joining me on IHIP News today is our friend, Tom Steyer. Tom, how are you?

  2. Tom Steyer· Guest0:09

I'm great, Jennifer. How are you doing?

  3. Jennifer Welch· Host0:11

    Great. Let's dive into this.

  4. Tom Steyer· Guest0:13

    Okay.

  5. Jennifer Welch· Host0:13

So you just ran for governor of California, which I appreciate that progressive people that are standing up to corporations are running. And as Bernie Sanders has shown us, it might take two, three, four political cycles to finally charge through. And I... So I think that your efforts are not done in vain because it takes time to change the culture of an electorate. And speaking of the culture of an electorate, uh, there's reporting from Politico, pop this up, "As APAC spending surges, it faces a big primary test. APAC is on pace to surpass its previous spending records. It's become an issue in Maryland and New York." Did APAC spend money against you?

  6. Tom Steyer· Guest0:58

Um, they're not al- I don't think APAC actually acts in state races directly.

  7. Jennifer Welch· Host1:06

    Okay.

  8. Tom Steyer· Guest1:06

That I believe they only act in federal races. So they'd act in Congress, they'd act in, you know, the presidency or... But I don't believe they acted directly in state races.

  9. Jennifer Welch· Host1:15

But I think, uh, 55 million in corporate PAC money was spent against you.

  10. Tom Steyer· Guest1:23

    [laughs] It was.

  11. Jennifer Welch· Host1:24

    Right.

  12. Tom Steyer· Guest1:24

And that doesn't include what they spent on the other candidates, but yes, $55 milli- million
