There will be an overreaction in England | Why would you doubt Cristiano?
6/24/202613 min
After watching England’s draw with Ghana at a local bar in West Hollywood, Rio is joined by Ste Howson and Joel Beya to look at what England needed to break down an organised defence.
There’s praise for Rio’s former assistant manager at Manchester United, Carlos Queiroz, who led the Ghanaian side and Rio reveals his former team mates were reminded of Queiroz’s coaching sessions during his time at Old Trafford.
And after Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2 goals - Rio also has a bone to pick with both of his co-hosts who seemingly wrote off the prospect of Ronaldo performing and leading Portugal to the latter stages of the tournament.
The trio debate whether it’s time for Thomas Tuchel to start Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford who both made positive impacts off the bench for the second match in a row and Ste details why England’s tactics were frustating to watch.

Joel Beya· Host0:23
It's not that.
Rio Ferdinand· Host0:23
The thing is, it's gonna be a different game. You come up against a France- Yeah ... you come up against even a Germany or an Argentina, they're not going to sit behind the ball and defend- Yeah ... in a two banks of four. That's what I'm saying. Not, yeah- I don't remember our group stage games when we won the Champions League either. Oh, we've done that now, have we?
Joel Beya· Host0:37
Yeah.
Rio Ferdinand· Host0:37
Right.
Joel Beya· Host0:37
I don't remember either.
Rio Ferdinand· Host0:38
Have you done that? Okay.
Joel Beya· Host0:39
But, nah, nah.
Rio Ferdinand· Host0:39
All right.
Joel Beya· Host0:39
Not yet. Soon.
Rio Ferdinand· Host0:40
But, but that's my point. My point is, these games, as long as you get through- Mm-hmm ... you wanna start playing well towards the end of this tournament. [upbeat music] Yes, guys. Welcome to this episode of Rio reacts. We're here out and about now. Do you know what? We had a barbecue at the villa, right? Beautiful villa.
Joel Beya· Host0:57
Yeah.
Rio Ferdinand· Host0:57
The Airbnb villa. And we know what we said.
Joel Beya· Host0:59
Love.
Rio Ferdinand· Host0:59
"You know what? Let's find out what's going on." So a few locals were there. We invited them, had a bit of food. They told us to come out here to go to Barney's Beanery. What a place it is, by the way.
Joel Beya· Host1:06
What a place.
Rio Ferdinand· Host1:07
What a setting. To come and watch the... How many screens? One, two, three, four, five, six.
Joel Beya· Host1:10
It's not just the screens, it's the live audience that are here. Live audience.
Rio Ferdinand· Host1:15
[crowd cheering] [laughs] You thought we were alone.
Joel Beya· Host1:18
Nah, man, we did it with the team. But Rio, it's been England nil, Ghana nil. You can hear the fans are outside as well, having a good time. Obviously, Steve, you know, I know this isn't your
