The Truth About Residential School Graves

5/11/202649 min

The Kamloops Indian Residential School made headlines five years ago this month. What followed was tears across the country, marches, statues torn down, and the Prime Minister bending a knee while holding a teddy bear. Then came the counter narrative fuelled by books with titles like Grave Error and Dead Wrong.

Today we talk to Dr. Kisha Supernant, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Alberta, who has been working in the field at potential grave sites across the country. What has she found? What is the tone of the debate five years on from Kamloops? And why are there still so many questions?

Hi, I'm Shin Yu Pai. Five years ago, I sat down in front of a microphone with a simple goal to share stories from the Asian American experience, and to do that by talking about everyday objects. Now 10,000 Things is headed into its fifth and final season. And we've got a new set of stories about coming fully into oneself, weird and wild and inspired. Tune into the final season of 10,000 Things from Acast Creative Studios, a podcast about modern-day artifacts of Asian American life and the stories they reveal.
