The Most Passive $187K/M Online Business Model You've Never Heard Of | Luke Van Der Veer | DSH #2058
7/11/202654 min
What if you could build websites like rental properties and get paid every month without dealing with traditional agency clients? In this Digital Social Hour episode, Sean Kelly sits down with Luke Van Der Veer to discuss rank-and-rent SEO, digital real estate, lead generation, business acquisitions, passive income, entrepreneurship, travel, health, and building a life around freedom. Luke explains why one demanding client pushed him to shut down his SEO agency and start building websites he owned. Instead of charging businesses for marketing services, he ranks local websites, generates inbound calls, and rents those digital assets to companies that need customers. The conversation also covers buying businesses, high-margin online income, real estate investing, escaping corporate life, choosing freedom over status, coaching, discipline, health optimization, travel, food quality, and why successful entrepreneurs must avoid splitting their focus across too many opportunities. I had a client really annoy me. It [laughs] just triggered me. Called me at midnight on a Sunday.
Sean Kelly· Host0:04
Yikes.
Luke Van Der Veer· Guest0:05
And I was like... I just woke up out of a daze. I'm like, "What do you want?" [laughs] And he's just complaining about his rankings. "I'm not getting enough calls." And I'm like, "Dude, I took you from, like, 10 pages deep in Google. Now you're getting 30, 40 calls a week. You can't complain to me." And it just made me really mad, and I was like, "You're fired. I'm done." And I woke up the next day, I shut down the agency, and I started building websites in the same niches and renting them to the business. I learn all the stuff that's in our foods- Yeah ... and, you know, pesticides and all these things, I'm like, "I-" It's disgusting. It's terrible, so I'm like, "I'm not having any of this. I'll pay whatever I have to pay to have the best."

Gotta look good, man. Um, so SEO, how'd you get into that? Why'd you get into it, and what are you doing with it?
Luke Van Der Veer· Guest0:59
[laughs] I hated my life is how I got into it. [laughs] I was at GE working in human resources. Just absolutely hated this nine-to-five.
Sean Kelly· Host1:06
Yikes. Human resources anywhere, I feel like.
Luke Van Der Veer· Guest1:08
Yeah, yeah. You just... I've never agreed with this thing that, you know, our, our society pushes where you just work forever and then maybe be able to retire at 65 and enjoy the last few years of your life.
Sean Kelly· Host1:18
Mm-hmm.
Luke Van Der Veer· Guest1:18
It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Sean Kelly· Host1:19
Yeah. Doesn't sound appealing.
Luke Van Der Veer· Guest1:21
And I was stuck in that. No, no. [laughs] It's terrible.
Sean Kelly· Host1:22
I'd rather enjoy the, the way up.
Luke Van Der Veer· Guest1:24

Sean Kelly· Host1:25
You know?
Luke Van Der Veer· Guest1:25
