The Hunt for Killer Father and Son Fugitives The Stoccos *Re-Issue*

4/5/202643 min

In 2007, Australia was captivated by the two week run of father and son outlaws Gino and Mark Stocco. They evaded police by driving laps around the southern states of Australia, while social media went wild with sightings and memes.

Eventually, they were captured, and the real story, more bizarre than anyone could have imagined, could finally be told. Journalist Nino Bucci has written the definitive account in his book, "The Stoccos: Like Father Like Son" and he joins us to talk about it.

This is a re-issue of episode 53.

  6. Matthew Tankard0:20

Well- Well, he's a criminal, eh? Yeah, he's a criminal. [laughs] They had a, a very lawless time, almost like outlaws, weren't they? When it came to that murder, you know, the, the worst crime the two ever committed together, Gino just wanted to tie the guy up. You know, Mark's the one who said, "Just shoot him." [gentle music] This is Australian True Crime with Michelle Laurie. I'm not Michelle Laurie. I'm Matthew Tankard, the producer of Australian True Crime, and today we're re-releasing episode fifty-three about father and son fugitives, Gino and Mark Stokko. In two thousand and seven, the Stokkos began what would be an eight-year crime spree across multiple states before their eventual capture in twenty fifteen. Gino and Mark were ultimately charged with thirty-four crimes, including the murder of sixty-eight-year-old Rosario Simone. Our guest on today's episode is Nino Bucci, author of The Stokkos: Like Father, Like Son, and there's a link to get your copy in the show notes of this episode.
