The How-To of Reconciliation with Bethany Allen | Forgiving As We Have Been Forgiven E4
5/11/202650 min
How do we move forward after forgiveness? John Mark and Bethany Allen walk through the four essential steps of reconciliation—confession, repentance, restitution, and restoration—and show us why forgiveness isn't complete until we've done the hard work of making things right. They challenge us to move beyond our culture's victimization mindset and take personal responsibility for the relationships we've damaged.

[gentle music] Hello and welcome to the John Mark Comer Teachings podcast. My name is Yinka Dawson, and I'm your host. Each week we feature teachings by John Mark or other voices in the formation space, and it's great to have you with us. We're concluding our forgiveness series, where we've been learning what it means to forgive as we've been forgiven. In this week's episode, John Mark and Bethany Allen talk through the hard but redemptive work of reconciliation, where we move beyond forgiveness to actually restore broken relationships. They work through the four practical steps of reconciliation and challenge us to take personal responsibility for the people we've hurt. Here's Bethany and John Mark.

Hi. Um, well, hey, hopefully, uh, you've been around the last couple weeks, and you know that we've been, uh, working through the practice of forgiveness. Um, and this evening we're just gonna- we're kinda gonna wrap it up together. Um, over the past few weeks, we've spent some time unpacking what it means to forgive. We've worked through what it means for God to use our pain and to catalyze it for good in the kingdom and in our lives. And then last week, Gerald walked us through just kinda the practical how-tos of forgiveness. And if you've missed any of these teachings, we think they're quite good, uh, and you should go back and listen to the podcast. Uh, now tonight we're gonna make a bit of a shift. Uh, we believe that the Spirit over the past few weeks has been leading many of us to places of great healing.
