I'm your host, Chris Plante, and I am so happy for you to be here today with me as we celebrate one of gaming's most iconic mascots that isn't named Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Raymond, Kirby, Shantae, Banjo, Kazooie, Conker, Croc, Donkey Kong, Gex, or Glover. No, my friends, this week, the spotlight belongs fully to the most misunderstood mascot of them all, Bubsy. [upbeat music] Inspired by the success of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Bubsy entered the 1990s with positive reviews and promising sales, but a pair of sequels, one with little ambition, the other with arguably too much of it, would tie the wise-cracking cat to a culture of cutesy cash grabs. Over the following decades, Bubsy devolved not just into a punchline, but a Shrek-like inside joke amongst gaming nerds. Bubsy 3D was the worst game ever made, even if we all knew it definitely wasn't. Considering all of this, it's utterly shocking that we would get a new Bubsy game in the year 2026, and yet, here we are.
