The Coastguard

3/4/20261 hr

The coastguard is this week’s topic at the behest of Cat of Ontario, Canada. Given the fact that Canada is the nation with the longest coastline in the world perhaps Cat is hoping to find out whether or not Canada also has the longest coastguards? Although, if so, given that Cat is not only from Canada but is also a member of the the Canadian Coastguard, this seems like the sort of thing they could have found out for themselves. But then again maybe that won’t come up.

With thanks to our editor Laura Grimshaw.

    Welcome back.

  4. Henry Paker· Host0:12

    It's Series 20, I think.

  5. Mike Wozniak· Host0:15

    Is it?

  6. Benjamin Partridge· Host0:15

    Is it?

  7. Henry Paker· Host0:16

    I think so, yeah.

  8. Mike Wozniak· Host0:17

Yes. Welcome back, everyone. Welcome back.

  9. Henry Paker· Host0:19

Anyway, before we started recording, Henry, you said you had something to ask me, and it sounded- I, I- ... a bit portentous.

  10. Mike Wozniak· Host0:24

Well, no, no. I just wanted to ask because I, I joined the, um, I joined the meeting a little bit later than you two, so you two were both already in the room as it were.

  11. Benjamin Partridge· Host0:32

I love that you think of it as a meeting. [laughing] [laughing] In a way it is, isn't it?

  12. Mike Wozniak· Host0:39

    It is in a way.

  13. Henry Paker· Host0:40

And the listeners are listening to the audio minutes. [laughing] But in a weird way, we got into the creative spheres, and it is... Th- these are creative spheres, aren't they, that we're in?

  14. Mike Wozniak· Host0:49

    Mm-hmm.

  15. Henry Paker· Host0:50

There's no point being ashamed of that. We're in creative spheres.

  16. Benjamin Partridge· Host0:53

    Or blobs.

  17. Henry Paker· Host0:54

Or [laughs] some of them aren't perfectly spherical. Some of them- Yeah ... are a bit more blobby. Yeah.

  18. Benjamin Partridge· Host0:58

    Mm-hmm.

  19. Henry Paker· Host0:58

Some of them have got, um, sort of weird discoloration within the blob, which is not clear where it's come from.

  20. Benjamin Partridge· Host1:03

But it's probably pollution. Even if it catches the light really nicely- Yeah ... it's almost certainly microplastics.

  21. Henry Paker· Host1:08

    It's almost certainly microplastics.

  22. Benjamin Partridge· Host1:10

Yeah. Just swallow it and forget about it.

  23. Henry Paker· Host1:12

[laughing] [laughing] Apparently, the, um... You know, there's that... There's some research that shows that microplastics are in every part of the human body, including sort of every fetus, and i- it's even in your brain and all that kind of stuff.

  24. Benjamin Partridge· Host1:25

    Yeah.

  25. Henry Paker· Host1:25

Apparently, it's not... It's been questioned now whether that was watertight.
