Bonjour! Erm...we mean...G'day mates! Our Peter Weir series PODNIC AT HANGING CAST kicks off with Weir's 1974 feature debut The Cars That Ate Paris, a film about the guy who plays Napoleon in the Bill & Ted movies getting stranded in a quirky and murderous Australian town. We're getting into the origins of the Australian New Wave, the various "calling card" projects that Weir made in the beginning of his career, and this film's spiky car which Ben has a lot of affection for, obviously. [upbeat music] Blank Check with Griffin and David. Blank Check with Griffin and David. Don't know what to say or to expect. All you need to know is that the name of the show is Blank Check.
Griffin Newman· Host0:19
148 people live in the township of Podcast, and every one of them is a murderer. Where exactly is Podcast? What kind of people live there? What are they trying to hide? Why do cars mean so much to them? What are these cars? They're the cars that ate Podcast.
Ben Hosley0:42
So the town's Podcast, but the people are also podcasts at the end of the day.
Griffin Newman· Host0:48
What? You mean what I just said?
Ben Hosley0:50
Yeah.
Griffin Newman· Host0:50
You're wrong. I, in fact, kept the word people.
Ben Hosley0:54
No, but you said it's the cars that ate Podcast, I guess instead of Paris.
Griffin Newman· Host0:58
Yeah. The only word I was subbing out was Paris.
Ben Hosley1:01
Good job.
Griffin Newman· Host1:01
Thank you.
David Sims· Host1:02
Damn it. All right, so listen- It was clean as hell ... I... All right, we- I'm- And I said this- You trying to fucking logic police me?
Griffin Newman· Host1:07
My logic's airtight.
Ben Hosley1:08
I said this before we started recording.
David Sims· Host1:11
I wasn't, actually. I was just thinking about it.
Ben Hosley1:11
I showed up very late to today's recording session, and I- It's Blank Check with Griffin and David, and this is Ben.
David Sims· Host1:16
I'm just like- Thank you.
Griffin Newman· Host1:16
Don't introduce the show.
David Sims· Host1:17
I just did it.
Griffin Newman· Host1:18
What is happening?
Ben Hosley1:19
Well, that's what I'm saying. We need to, uh, just provide some context that I was quite late- Quite late ... and that I am shaming myself currently at this moment, as I speak.
David Sims· Host1:28
Shame.
Ben Hosley1:29
Shame on me.
