6/18/202652 min

Pete, Tom and Sids are soaking up the California sun as their stateside World Cup tour continues on That Peter Crouch Podcast — and they've got a very special guest. Manchester United and England legend Rio Ferdinand joins the lads fresh from his DJ sets in the fan parks to share incredible stories from his playing days, including a surreal World Cup match against Brazil and an unforgettable moment at the hospital in South Africa that put his entire career into perspective!

Rio opens up about his experiences at France 98 acting as Michael Owen's ultimate cheerleader, the tactical genius of Rivaldo, the heartbreak of missing out on the 2010 World Cup through injury, and his thoughts on Thomas Tuchel’s big squad selection decisions.

The boys also react to the tournament's open nature and early surprises, debating whether the conditions and heat are going to play a massive factor for England. Plus, Chris Stark checks in all the way from London, capturing the fan atmosphere around Big Ben and finding out what the public really thinks Pete and Sids would be doing if they weren't footballers.

Then it's over to the Paddy Power Predictor as Pete, Tom and Sids roll the dice for a special 'Vegas Baby' edition to lock in their scores for USA vs Australia. Leave your England vs Croatia predictions in the comments below and let us know who you think lifts the trophy.

    How are we?

  4. Steve Sidwell· Host0:12

    We're good.

  5. Tom Fordyce· Host0:13

Good. We had, um, an intense game of paddle, didn't we, this morning?

  6. Steve Sidwell· Host0:16

    Whoa, I can't really move.

  7. Peter Crouch· Host0:17

I think intense is the, uh, is underused there.

  8. Tom Fordyce· Host0:19

    Underplays it.

  9. Peter Crouch· Host0:20

    It was fully engaged.

  10. Steve Sidwell· Host0:22

We were, we were full... Well, it was full on, wasn't it?

  11. Tom Fordyce· Host0:25

Yeah. I mean, look, you, you boys know, um, in my, um, my previous career I spent a lot of time covering tennis. You know, I was there at Wimbledon when Federer played Nadal, saw Andy Murray. Was this morning as good as that? Let's not be silly. Of course, it wasn't. Those boys are professional. But was it far off? I don't think it was, Sids.

  12. Peter Crouch· Host0:40

I think competitive-wise it was- Yeah.

  13. Steve Sidwell· Host0:42

    Yeah.

  14. Peter Crouch· Host0:43

We gave as good as them.

  15. Steve Sidwell· Host0:44

    Yeah.

  16. Tom Fordyce· Host0:45

    You did.

  17. Peter Crouch· Host0:45

Obviously, the talent wasn't quite there.

  18. Steve Sidwell· Host0:47

I don't... I think the last time I see parts of you today losing was when we played at Stoke together. [laughs] Literally.

  19. Peter Crouch· Host0:55

    Really?

  20. Steve Sidwell· Host0:55

    Yeah, yeah.

  21. Peter Crouch· Host0:56

    Yeah, I was angry there.

  22. Steve Sidwell· Host0:57

    Yeah.

  23. Peter Crouch· Host0:57

But you said, you know, "Make sure you get it." [laughs] He'd got a different side to him.

  24. Steve Sidwell· Host1:01

I bet. I'm hoping he did get it as well.

  25. Peter Crouch· Host1:04

    [laughs] Different side.

  26. Steve Sidwell· Host1:05

That was good. I loved it.

  27. Peter Crouch· Host1:06

Got to have a different side to you, don't you?

  28. Steve Sidwell· Host1:07

    Mate.

  29. Peter Crouch· Host1:07

Listen- No one wants to know ... you can be as nice as you like off the field, the minute you cross that paddle line...

  30. Steve Sidwell· Host1:13

[laughs] No one goes for a friendly game of paddle. You shouldn't do.

  31. Peter Crouch· Host1:16

    No.

  32. Tom Fordyce· Host1:16

True. Uh, boys, how we feeling about the tournament? Because we are quite a long way in now to the, uh, the first week and the first round of games. The thing that I'm finding watching these games, Sids, is how open they all are.
