[upbeat music] This is World Report. Good morning. I'm Kate McKenna in Ottawa. A fast-moving wildfire is threatening the British Columbia community that became a national symbol of extreme climate vulnerability. The Saw Creek wildfire broke out yesterday just south of Lytton. BC Wildfire Service information officer Shay Stearns warns that extreme heat is rapidly driving the flames.

Hot and dry conditions have been present throughout the day and throughout the past couple days, so it has made fuels highly susceptible to ignition. So we are expecting additional growth on that size as well.

More than 100 residents are now under emergency orders to flee. The fire has already cut off Highway One and jumped from the brush straight into the treetops. Stearns says the sheer intensity of the blaze is creating a dangerous environment.
