Sarah Longwell and Bill Kristol: We're Governed by Broken Men

7/20/202652 min

Trump tried to steal the limelight and the valor of Spain at the World Cup, even as more troops died overseas; Stephen Miller regularly encourages ICE to be violent while Pete Hegseth pushes soldiers to be macho bullies. The leaders in this country are men with no center and no core. Now with the arrest of the Tate brothers in Miami, Trump gets a chance to extend his record of standing by sex pests and assaulters. Plus: Iran and the U.S. are dangerously escalating the war, ICE is going even more rogue, Maine Dems have a replacement for Platner, and generic ballot polling suggests voters aren't necessarily gravitating to Democrats—and the noisy DSA may have a lot to do with that.

Bill Kristol joins special guest host Sarah Longwell.

[upbeat music] Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Bulwark Podcast. I'm Sarah Longwell sitting in for the one and only Tim Miller 'cause he is on summer vacation, which he deserves. Uh, don't you worry, even though Tim is not here, Bill Kristol is, so we're gonna do a regular Monday show where we spin through the news. 4. Bill Kristol· Guest0:59

  5. Sarah Longwell· Host1:00

    Who were you rooting for?

  6. Bill Kristol· Guest1:01

I was sort of, you know, ambivalent going in, but I ended up rooting for Spain because Argentina's a pretty dirty team, I've gotta say, and Spain, it does play kind of beautiful soccer in its own careful and precise, but pretty impressive way. So I, I was happy that Spain won.

  7. Sarah Longwell· Host1:17

    Okay.

  8. Bill Kristol· Guest1:17

And, um- Yeah ... what about you?

  9. Sarah Longwell· Host1:20

I was rooting for Argentina. The only way-- I was- I was thinking about how Americans choose who they're gonna root for in a game like this, um, and I was- I've been
