    [upbeat music] Welcome to Coach Your Brains Out, the show that explores learning and leadership from the top minds in volleyball and beyond, with your hosts, John Mayer and Billy Allen. [upbeat music] How is it being observers to youth coaching? I know you guys have done a couple pods on it.

    Anything you do, you're like, "Oh, I would do stuff different." Um, and that's, like, lower down the road of importance. Like, I think if you're just being a good person and treating people with respect, and your h- kids are having fun, and they're engaged, like, that's, that's so much more important than, like, whatever warm-up stuff you did or didn't do. Um, but, you know, it, it can be really easy to nitpick somebody else's practice and a little harder to, to be the one out there, like, saying stuff. But, um, you know, I think there's always stuff that could be [chuckles] done better. But again, like, catch-- if I, if I see an inefficient drill or whatever, like, you know, my critical brain comes out, but if he leaves practice smiling and having fun and wanting to come back, then, you know, mission accomplished.

    Uh, yeah, I echo what Billy said, especially the, the idea of, like, if, if the coach got me that I wanna come back tomorrow, like, that's a huge win. Like, whatever, even if we did-- they did dynamic stretching and whatever non, non-exciting things that... At least to me. And then also, I think it's hard for me sometimes to have the empathy of... You know, we get to work with these eighteen to twenty-two-year-olds-
