Revisiting Chabad with Rabbi YY Jacobson
5/20/202635 min
In the wake of our Denominations series, many of you wrote to us asking "what about Chabad?" As a leading resource for all Jews, it makes perfect sense to consider how Chabad fits into the denominational puzzle of America. We're off this week, but Noam kicks us off with a fresh greeting and a few words about Chabad before re-introducing our episode from last summer with Rabbi YY Jacobson. We're getting ready to respond to more of your letters about the denominations series (as well as some other recent episodes). If you'd like to have your question considered for a special mailbag episode, don't forget to write to us at wonderingjews@unpacked.media or comment on our Instagram/YouTube pages. [upbeat music] Welcome to Wondering Jews with Michal and Noam. It's just me. Michal has been on maternity leave. Congrats, Michal. Mabrouk. Mazel tov. So happy for you. We are taking the week off since we are headed into Shavuot and Memorial Day weekend. I really hope you got your cheesecake for Shavuot, by the way, for those who don't know about that. Check it out. People eat a lot of cheese on Shavuot. Anyway, or a lot of people do. I don't know. Anyway, many, many, many of you wrote to us about our denomination series in April. There are, you know, the different movements in Judaism. Both Michal and I are going to be replying to your thoughts on this show very soon. But it seemed to, like, really move many of you or at least lead to discussions, and people had questions and all these different things. But a lot of you pointed out that we didn't talk about Chabad, and that's a good point. 38% of US Jews, and I'm just talking about US, in Australia, in the UK, in South Africa, like this is really popular, Chabad. 38% of US Jews have interacted with Chabad at some point. That's a heck of a number. So we thought it would be appropriate to revisit our episode about Chabad from last year. I think you're gonna enjoy it. I really hope you do. And we will see you on the other side for our continued celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month. I'm so excited to have Rabbi YY Jacobson at the Shabbat table together with us.
