Responding to the comments section

In this episode Jan and Antoinette respond directly to feedback from the Etterati.

We answer questions about the language used to describe certain “regimes,” balance in journalism, why we talk about Gaza and whether we laugh too much about dark subject matters. Plus: what happens when journalists we’ve scrutinised reach out directly?

As a media platform built on critiquing journalism and power, we ask how should we handle criticism of our own work?

This is a candid conversation about accountability, truth and what drives us to do the work we do.

[laughs] Yeah. One, one person enjoyed it. Uh, but there are other, uh, Etihadis I'm meeting out in the wild. A couple of people came up to me on the dance floor of a wedding. Um, and there was also somebody when I was in IGA to self-identify as a Etihadis, and they were like, "Oh, you know, I listen to the podcast." And then I was picking some bananas, and then went on to advise that I... Like, the bananas I was choosing from, there was another section where the bananas were cheaper. So I was like, "Sweet, smart, and a bit scroogy." That's how [laughs] that's how Etihadi- or, or maybe savvy with money is- But, yeah ... rather than being scroogy ...

    Exactly, yes.

  15. Jan Fran· Host1:05

Like, "Go and get the bananas from that section- That section ... over there."

  16. Antoinette Lattouf· Host1:08

    Yes, yes.

  17. Jan Fran· Host1:08

Um, I saw a woman who was wearing a It's A No From Me T-shirt, and she was crossing the street, and she was an older woman. And I was like, "You know what? I'm just gonna go up to her. I think this- Oh, did you? ... is gonna be funny." Yeah, and, uh, she didn't recognize me.

  18. Antoinette Lattouf· Host1:20

[laughs] [gasps] [laughs] What the fuck?

  19. Jan Fran· Host1:24

I was like, "Hi." And she looked at me and she was like, "Hi." And I was like, "Oh, it... Sorry, it's,
