Property is expensive but not out of reach: Rentvesting case study
4/20/202632 min
Bryce and Alec sit down with Australian Property Scout founder Sam Gordon to walk through a rentvesting case study: a 28-year-old Sydneysider on $95,000 with $80,000 saved and a goal of eventually owning a $1.5 million Sydney home. They unpack how rentvesting can help bridge that gap, what kind of property could work at this price point, the risks to watch, and why strategy matters more than just maxing out your borrowing power.
In this episode:
00:00 — Why first-home buyers are struggling in Australia
00:23 — What rentvesting is and why it matters
01:10 — Jordan’s case study: $95k income, $80k deposit, Sydney dream
04:41 — The rentvesting strategy: buy where you can afford, rent where you want
08:07 — How equity, refinancing and portfolio growth can fund the next purchase

Welcome to Equity Mates, a show where we explore what's possible in the world of investing. If you've joined us for the first time, a huge welcome to the show. My name is Bryce, and as always, I'm joined by my equity buddy, Ren. How are you going?
Alec Renehan· Host0:39
I'm very good, Bryce. Very excited for this episode. We're talking all things property today. We know a lot of listeners and watchers in the Equity Mates community want to get into the property market and are struggling with prices. Our guest today, uh, last time he was on, called the first home buyer deposit scheme, the 5% scheme, jet fuel on top of a bushfire, and it can feel like that for people who are trying to get into the market these days. Particularly if you're in a capital city and you're despairing at prices, there are other ways to go about it, and today we're gonna unpack this concept of rent vesting. We've spoken about it before, but we're going to do it with a case study today. To help us, uh, work through it all, we're joined by the founder of Australian Property Scout, Sam Gordon. Welcome back to Equity Mates.
