PCP Guides: supporting neurodivergent kids - survival

4/20/20261 hr 13 min

A heavy but important re-listen this week about survival. So many of us feel like we are constantly in the arena battling to survive and in this ep we discuss how real and tough that can be with two messages sent in from the beautiful PCP community. Thank you all for helping us to keep moving forward and we hope this helps in some small way too. We can't wait to host a Patreon live Q&A at the end of this PCP Guides bundle on supporting neurodivergent kids too!

Hi everyone, it's Billy here. Uh, I've just done another reflection on our PCP guide, Supporting Neurodivergent Children, and this one was the survival one. And it was quite timely actually, because recently in one of our live shows, I met the beautiful dad who triggered this as a topic by coming up to me a long time ago now and saying, "Sometimes it's hard to listen to PCP, uh, when all I'm trying to do is get through." And he was speaking about a collective experience of people he cares about in his life, his family and friends feeling like that, which made me realize that I needed to, um, focus on where the evidence can help guide us in this. And it was really beautiful to re-listen to this one. Um, Nick shines through, as he does all the time, in just sharing his own experience, his own journey with parenting, his own journey with growth, and how he's worked towards some of the key components that we know are really important in this parenting journey and just surviving it. He speaks about how he practices, uh, self-compassion, and we know that's that cornerstone of, um, our inner critic and, you know, that idea of how do we support those around us that we love, and how do we give that same love and compassion to ourselves where when we find ourselves being hypercritical of our parenting journey, um, and thinking about where are the things that we're doing well, that we're putting effort into that
