    Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. The US military says it has completed a tenth consecutive night of attacks on Iran, saying the strikes lasted about five hours as the US seeks to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes, however, have not compelled Iran to ease its grip on the straits. Suzanne Maloney is the director of the foreign policy program at the Brookings Institution. She says Iran has signaled an openness to diplomacy, but is also trying to outlast the US.

    The latest strikes came to an end amid word that Iran has attacked a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The British military's Maritime Trade Operations Center says the attack forced the ship's crew to abandon ship. Iran's Revolutionary Guard is claiming responsibility for the attack and at least one other on Monday. Some political leaders in Canada reacting angrily over President Trump's threat of new 50% tariffs. But Dan Karpenchuk reports that Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada is ready to engage to resolve any trade dispute.
