    Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jeanine Herbst. The Trump administration has rescinded its effort to freeze ten billion dollars in social service funding for five Democratic-led states. And NPR's Jennifer Ludden reports officials had accused the states of benefits fraud.

    In January, the Trump administration announced a freeze in childcare subsidies and cash aid to California, New York, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota. Officials pointed to a years-long benefits scandal in Minnesota and claimed there was ongoing fraud in the five states but offered no evidence. The states sued, noting that stopping funds for those programs would hit hard for hundreds of thousands of low-income families. A federal judge had blocked the move. In a letter filed with the court, the Department of Health and Human Services does not explain why it's canceling that freeze. Trump administration officials have repeatedly tried to block social safety net funding and repeatedly faced pushback from courts. Jennifer Ludden, NPR News, Washington.

    The House today successfully voted to make daylight saving time permanent. As NPR's Elena Moore reports, if the Senate follows suit, Americans will no longer have to change their clocks back an hour every winter.
