Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. The U.S. military says it's finished its latest strikes on Iran. In a statement, it said the attacks were aimed at reducing Iran's ability to damage shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. As NPR's Carrie Kahn reports, these strikes are the latest in a string of attacks that began after an Iranian strike Saturday on a commercial ship in the straits.

CENTCOM, U.S. Central Command, posted on X early this morning that overnight it had hit more than one hundred and forty targets in Iran. It said the U.S. hit drone launch sites and other military infrastructure, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities. Iran then said it responded, sending drones and missiles toward Gulf states hosting U.S. military base.

That's NPR's Carrie Kahn. Oil prices have jumped, and Asian shares are mostly lower after the U.S. and Iran traded attacks this weekend. Brent crude rose five percent, while South Korea's KOSPI sank seven-point-four percent. Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul is m- mourning the loss of his mentor, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham died Saturday night at the age of seventy-one. As NPR's Claudia Grisales reports, McCaul overlapped with the Graham-led congressional delegation meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
