Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. The US military says it's finished its latest strikes on Iran. In a statement, it said the attacks were aimed at reducing Iran's ability to damage shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. As NPR's Carrie Khan reports, these strikes are the latest in a string of attacks that began after an Iranian strike Saturday on a commercial ship in the Straits.

CENTCOM, US Central Command, posted on X early this morning that overnight it had hit more than one hundred and forty targets in Iran. It said the US hit drone launch sites and other military infrastructure, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities. Iran then said it responded, sending drones and missiles toward Gulf states hosting US military base.
