Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. The US military is carrying out another round of airstrikes in Iran after its Revolutionary Guards closed the Strait of Hormuz following a confrontation with a cargo ship. Iran says the vessel was using what it calls an illegal shipping route, but it stopped when a warning shot was fired upon it. Kashea Janady of the BBC is following our story.

The Americans announced that in retaliation to this attack, they've hit several positions along the Iranian shoreline. These attacks comes as the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps issued a statement announcing that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed till further notice. That's after these talks between Iran and Oman and Qatar in Muscat actually ended without any agreement. The Omani side is insisting that there should be two sea lanes open, one on the Omani side, one on the Iranian side, and they, Iranians, are insisting on a joint management.

That's the BBC's Kashea Janady. Wildfires in Europe are continuing to burn, with the most deadly blaze this past week in Spain. As Willem Marx reports, at least twelve people are dead, including four suspected British nationals, and nearly two dozen people are missing.

The severe wildfires are located in the country's Andalusia region. Hundreds of firefighters are working to contain the blaze that may have begun thanks to a downed power cable near the town of Almeria. Temperatures in southern Europe have been above a hundred degrees Fahrenheit for weeks so far this summer, with major wildfires in France and Portugal too. Thousands
