Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. U.S. Central Command says American forces hit dozens of military targets across Iran overnight, calling it a response to recent attacks on commercial shipping. Tehran says it fired missiles at U.S. military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar as the conflict continues to escalate. NPR's Carrie Kahn reports from Tel Aviv.

For the second night in a row, the U.S. Central Command says it struck some 90 Iranian military targets, including air defense systems and drone depots. Seven hours later, posting on X, the U.S. military said it had completed its campaign to, quote, "further degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz." Iran's speaker of the parliament posted on X that it was retaliating. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a key negotiator in talks with the U.S. to permanently end the war said, quote, "America still hasn't learned that bullying and breaking promises are no longer cost-free." Kuwait's military said it was actively intercepting incoming drones and missiles. Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it was also attacking U.S. bases in Bahrain. Carrie Kahn, NPR News, Tel Aviv.
