    Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Nora Raum. Iran began the funeral procession for the Ayatollah Khamenei today. Iran's eighty-six-year-old leader and four of his family members were killed in a US Israeli airstrike in February. NPR's Hadil Al-Shalchi reports.

    The caskets of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his four family members were placed in the back of a huge semi-trailer adorned with white paneling. Iranian state TV showed tight angles of crowds of people swarming the truck. A line of men held up red signs that read hashtag Kill Trump. Tens of thousands of people gathered in Tehran over the weekend to visit Khamenei's casket. High-ranking Iranian officials made rare public appearances to perform the ritual Islamic funeral prayers, including the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Notably absent was Khamenei's fourth son and successor, Mojtaba. Many leaders in Iran stay in hiding to avoid assassination. Khamenei will be buried in his birthplace of Mashhad.
