Celebrations on the National Mall will continue after thunderstorms moved into the area. NPR's Shondelise Duster reports Freedom 250 organizers said the Salute to America celebration will move forward on the National Mall.

They said, quote, "Rain or shine, the American people deserve a celebration worthy of our nation's historic 250th birthday." Earlier in the evening, thousands on the National Mall had been ordered to evacuate and seek shelter as severe storms moved into the Washington, DC area. US Secret Service said those who evacuated the area would have to be screened again before entering. July 4th events have already been delayed or canceled because of the dangerous heat that made temperatures feel up to 115 degrees.
