Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jeanine Herbst. More strikes back and forth between the US and Iran. CENTCOM says the US military today condicted, conducted additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran. This after Bahrain, one of the US Nav-- the home of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet and a strong critic of Iran, says Tehran launched a drone attack against it. Iran took the action after the US' previous overnight attacks on Iranian sites, and separately, a shipping monitor says a ship in the Strait of Hormuz was hit today. In Venezuela, more than fourteen hundred people are dead. Tens of thousands are reported missing from two powerful earthquakes Wednesday night, along with hundreds of aftershocks. That's left many survivors sleeping outside. That has international search and rescue teams in the country, but rescue efforts are hampered by a lack of resources. John Otis reports from Caracas, the country lacks protective gear for firefighters, among other things.

While we were driving into Caracas, we passed convoy after convoy of aid trucks trying to get to the disaster zone. But one problem is that the government lacks heavy equipment like bulldozers and backhoes. That's partly why you see a lot of average folks taking matters into their own hands.
