Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Nora Rom. Bahrain says it's been hit by Iranian drones, the latest escalation in a series of attacks in the region. The US struck multiple sites in Iran last night in what it says was retaliation for an Iranian drone strike on a ship trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz this week. NPR's Carrie Kahn reports.

Bahrain's Foreign Affairs Ministry says early Saturday the country was hit by a number of Iranian drones, calling the attack "a flagrant violation of the country's sovereignty." The strikes appear to be in retaliation for the multiple US attacks on Iranian sites late Friday. Bahrain's state media accused Iran of, quote, "exporting chaos and undermining regional stability." Egypt, Kuwait, and the UAE also condemned the attack. Hours after the Bahrain drone strike, a UK shipping monitor reported that an unidentified projectile hit a ship in the Strait of Hormuz. This was the second attack on vessels attempting to pass through the vital waterway since Thursday, further testing the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the US. Carrie Kahn, NPR News, Tel Aviv.
