    Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Nora Rom. In a major test of his political power, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani went three for three in last night's Democratic primaries. Steve Kestenbaum reports the outcome will move the New York congressional delegation further to the left.

    Mayor Mamdani flexed his muscles while stumping for his picks, and it paid off in a big way. All three candidates he backed won their primary races. In one upset, five-term Democratic Congresswoman Adriano Espaillat went down in a narrow loss to Darializa Avila Chevalier.

    Congress, on a bipartisan basis, approved a bill last night designed to make housing more affordable. President Trump had been scheduled to sign the bill into law today. But hours before the ceremony, the president said he will not sign the bill, that first Congress must pass the Save America Act, legislation to impose new federal rules on elections, on elections that under the Constitution are run by the states. House Speaker Mike Johnson wants Trump's bill to pass, but he says that's gonna be a challenge in the Senate.
