Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. Primary voters went to the polls Tuesday in four states, with the most closely watched contest in New York City, where Democratic voters advanced to November a slate of congressional candidates endorsed by Mayor Sohrab Mamdani. The three candidates swept their primary elections in a major blow for the Democratic establishment. In South Carolina, Allen Wilson is thanking President Trump for his late endorsement in the Republican primary runoff for governor.

I also wanna give a shout-out to President Trump. [cheering] [applause] I was honored to receive his endorsement.

After initially endorsing Wilson's primary opponent, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, President Trump endorsed both candidates on Friday, saying, "With either one, you can't go wrong." Wilson is currently South Carolina's attorney general. Congress has directed President Trump to remove U.S. armed forces from hostilities against Iran. The Senate joined the House Tuesday, approving a war powers resolution on a vote of fifty to forty-eight. The resolution lacks the force of law and does not need to be signed by the president, but it reflects growing concerns in the Republican-led Congress about the war and Trump's interim deal to end it. Here's NPR's Eric McDaniel.

Congress has the power to declare war and regulate military conflict. It hasn't been able to do that, though, for the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran. The Trump administration hasn't asked for approval or a declaration of war in contravention of the law.
