Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Nora Rom. Vice President J.D. Vance is meeting today with top Iranian officials in Switzerland to discuss an end to the war in Iran along the lines of the memorandum of understanding reached last week. Before the talks, Vance said this is a chance to bring peace to the region.

What we're trying to accomplish here is something very simple. Through diplomacy, through working together to transform the Middle East, where Iran and the Gulf have been at war with each other, or at least have had very unfriendly relations, where Iran has been a driver of regional instability.
