    Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Libby Casey. The US military says it struck various radar and drone launch sites near the Strait of Hormuz in recent days. US Central Command says these attacks came in response to Iran shooting down a US drone operating over international waters. Over the weekend, President Trump said the US and Iran are close to a peace deal, but State Department spokesman Tommy Piggott told NPR's Morning Edition that there is not yet a deal.

    Piggott pushed back on Republican concerns that the US might unfreeze Iranian assets as part of an agreement and said there will be no exchange of money over the short term. Ukraine targeted oil and gas infrastructure in several regions of Russia over the weekend. The attacks are the latest in a growing campaign of Ukrainian strikes on Russia's energy industry that Kyiv calls long-range sanctions. From Moscow, NPR's Charles Maynes reports.
