Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Ryland Barton. President Trump held a White House Situation Room meeting today as he weighs moving forward with a deal to extend the Iran ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says the agreement has not been finalized. As NPR's Greg Myre reports, the current ceasefire has been fragile.

The US and Iran have had back-and-forth attacks throughout the week. The US said it shot down Iranian drones threatening US ships. Iran fired a missile at a US military base in Kuwait, which was shot down. So the current ceasefire has been in place for nearly two months now, and it's been mostly holding. But this week was a very strong example of how vulnerable the truce remains, especially if there's no diplomatic breakthrough.
