Live from NPR News, I'm Dan Romer. President Trump says a deal with Iran may be near, but some Republicans in Congress are concerned about the terms. NPR's Mara Liasson reports.

President Trump posted on Truth Social that negotiations are, quote, "proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner" and that, quote, "the blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed." Iranian officials say the agreement would allow for more talks over the next sixty days and would not include a discussion of Iran's nuclear program. Trump has announced impending deals with Iran before that have never materialized, and some Republicans in Congress are skeptical, saying that the deal would allow Iran to retain its nuclear ambitions, and while it may open the Strait of Hormuz for now, it would leave Iran with the power to close it again.
