    A sovereign wealth fund is essentially a national savings and investment account. It's designed to grow wealth for future generations of Canadians.

    Carney says this new fund will be a crown corporation reporting to Parliament, part of his Building Canada Strong plan. The sovereign wealth fund will be used in partnership with the private sector to finance major projects. Carney says the initial endowment will be $25 billion, but will grow in part through a new mechanism.
