Hello, and welcome to your Chequered Flag Podcast Review of the Miami Grand Prix. My name's Harry Benjamin, and I brought in the big guns for this one. Alongside me is 1996 F1 World Champion, Damon Hill, and seven-time Grand Prix winner, two-time Indy 500 winner, Juan Pablo Montoya. What a lineup, guys. Welcome. Thanks for coming.
Damon Hill· Guest0:25
I, I am impressed by the Indy 500 winner.
Harry Benjamin· Host0:26
It's cool, innit?
Damon Hill· Guest0:27
Uh, it's, honestly, that is, that is very cool.
Juan Pablo Montoya· Guest0:29
Yeah, the Indy was... Honestly, the first one was really funny because I really didn't wanna do it. I was forced to do it.
Damon Hill· Guest0:36
I can understand not wanting to do it. It's scary.
Juan Pablo Montoya· Guest0:39
No, no, no. I thought it w- Oh, honestly.
Damon Hill· Guest0:42
That- I, I didn't, I was not into it.
Juan Pablo Montoya· Guest0:43
So- You don't wanna do it ... no, because remember, at the time, the c- the championships were split.
Damon Hill· Guest0:48
Yeah.
Juan Pablo Montoya· Guest0:48
So we're, I was defending the car championship- Yeah ... and the car was breaking down every week. And then they said, "Oh, we're gonna run this," and I was like, "Why are we taking focus of that to run that?"
Damon Hill· Guest0:58
Mm-hmm.
Juan Pablo Montoya· Guest0:59
And, uh, so it was kind of weird. I was supposed to do the rookie test, you know, the way that you gotta do 190 miles an hour, then 195, then 200. So they said, you know, just came from Japan, and they said, "Okay, just go out, do a, you know, few warm-up laps before that." And so I went out, and by lap two, I was wide open. I was doing 220, and I was second fastest of the day. And they said, "Oh, okay, you're okay."
Harry Benjamin· Host1:19
Well, I mean, look, I, I think- Good decision to do it, though.
Damon Hill· Guest1:22
[laughs] Win it twice.
Harry Benjamin· Host1:24
I could leave- Yeah ... and happily just watch you two chat about that and your careers.
Damon Hill· Guest1:27
I have a, I have a story, and one more on the Indy
