Happy Max Fun Drive. We've got a, a little treat for you. We had a sit down with our friend, professional actor Janet Varney, who told us where we've been going wrong in our voiceover careers.
Griffin McElroy· Host0:11
That's our Boco for this year's Max Fun Drive. If you give just five bucks a month, you'll get access to that and all the other Boco we've ever done here on Mabimbam and all the other shows. Janet turned our whole life around. Travis, do you remember a nugget that Janet gave us that you've really treasured?
Justin McElroy· Host0:25
I believe she told us to always picture Goofy no matter what the character is.
Griffin McElroy· Host0:29
Ah, yes.
Justin McElroy· Host0:30
Break 'em off a piece of that good content.
Griffin McElroy· Host0:32
Yeah.
Speaker 20:33
Take a chance.
Janet Varney· Guest0:34
Um, yeah. I mean, I, I, of course, always imagine, uh, Goofy, uh, Disney's Goofy. I always imagine Disney's- Hmm ... Goofy saying each and every line before and after.
Justin McElroy· Host0:45
It's- Wow, that's interesting ... so much energy.
Janet Varney· Guest0:47
Yeah.
Griffin McElroy· Host0:47
So regardless of like- Goofie-verb [laughs] Yeah ... regardless of the sort of tone of the piece, it's, uh- Yeah ... i- it's always Goofy. If it's dramatic- Oh, yeah ... comedic or ... It's always Goofy.
Janet Varney· Guest0:56
That's like, you know how people have like a- Does that explain so much about Korra?
Griffin McElroy· Host0:59
Yeah.
Janet Varney· Guest0:59
Right?
Griffin McElroy· Host1:01
Yeah, I see it now.
Janet Varney· Guest1:01
Imagine that, because that tells you, that cracks open a whole new world of- [laughs] ... every piece of work I've ever done, is you have to know that in my heart- That's the Rosetta Stone, folks ... I'm always talking to Goofy.
Griffin McElroy· Host1:13
Yeah.
Justin McElroy· Host1:14
There it is. That's the Rosetta Stone- That's so, that's so fascinating ... of the voice of Janet Varney right there. We cracked it.
Janet Varney· Guest1:17
[laughs] I do.
Griffin McElroy· Host1:17
Because you will occasionally slip and call a character Goofy when you respond to them.
Justin McElroy· Host1:22
I noticed that.
Griffin McElroy· Host1:23
And I always wondered why that was.
Justin McElroy· Host1:24
Or George, or George Geef.
Griffin McElroy· Host1:25
George Geef. Yeah, George Geef.
Justin McElroy· Host1:26
You'll sometimes slip.
Janet Varney· Guest1:26
And they, they could've cut it, they could've cut that out, so I ha- I
