The NTSB preliminary report is out for the collision of a fire truck with a regional airliner at LaGuardia Airport. And to me, the most interesting thing about it is something that's barely mentioned in the report and not explained much at all. Today we'll talk about that crash and the special red lighting that indicates a runway is occupied and not safe to cross, and why it turned off just before the fire truck entered the runway. The lighting is found only at twenty airports, and oddly, it worked just as it's designed to work, and I'll tell you why. We'll also talk about some of the human factors that may have been involved in this crash and what we can learn from them. And separately, sadly, a guest that we've had on the show five times recently passed away, and I'll talk about him and his legacy.
