Kelsey Waghorn: The Gratitude List

6/18/202619 min

In this week’s bonus episode, Kelsey Waghorn, a survivor of the 2019 Whakaari/White Island volcanic eruption in New Zealand, shares what she is grateful for.

It was an early start for Kelsey, recording from New Zealand, so the fact it didn’t rain when she walked her dog this morning makes the list, along with her morning coffee and, finally, sitting down with John after months of planning this conversation.

Head to the main episode to hear Kelsey speak about the long and painful reality of burn recovery, the psychological impact of trauma, and how curiosity, mindfulness and self-compassion became central to her recovery.

  1. John Robins· Host0:00

Hello, everyone. It's John here, just letting you know that I have written a book. It's called Thirst: 12 Drinks That Changed My Life, and it's out now. In many episodes of How Do You Cope, you'll have heard me talk about my relationship with alcohol, and in writing Thirst, I wanted to explore what alcohol means. Why did it mean more to me than other people? Why did it mean some things felt better, and why did it mean so many things went wrong? I also talk about lots of other things you'll have heard me and my guests discuss on How Do You Cope: meditation, physical pain, gratitude, trauma, and therapy. There's even a chapter about my bum and its relationship with Buddhism. So if that piques your interest, Thirst is out now, and the audiobook, read by me, is available wherever you get audiobooks from.

The litter box was my biggest fear when I got my kitty Daphne, but since I started using Arm & Hammer Cat Litter, I don't notice any cat smell. I always feel confident about anyone stopping by, whether it's my friends or my family or even people in my building. So for my fellow cat parents, be guest ready with Arm & Hammer Hard Ball Cat Litter. Find it now at Walmart or Amazon.
