Jimmy Chin: Always Difficult

2/20/20261 hr 4 min

Jimmy Chin refuses to play the game on easy mode. Whether it’s climbing, photography or filmmaking, Jimmy has spent a career figuring out the most bad ass goal in whatever medium and then making it happen. He’s had some mentors along the way, a little luck and an unparalleled work ethic, but his ability to step into uncomfortable situations is his super power.

Have you heard about, like, people that have just, like, one outfit, one clothing, you know, set of clothing, so they don't have to make, like, decisions in the morning? I'm curious how many pairs of red tees and black pants or black shorts do you own?

  2. Alex Honnold· Host0:12

Well, I own a couple pairs of black pants, 'cause all technical outdoor pants are black. Uh, I only own one red tee, or two now, I guess. [laughs] But no, I'm all about the, the single pair of clothes. I do everything in my inside clothes and my outside clothes, and I basically have one outfit that I have going for months at a time. I mean, like right now I'm wearing my pajamas, the same pajamas I wear every day, uh, that I'm not climbing outside.

  3. Fitz Cahall· Host0:34

  4. Alex Honnold· Host0:41

[laughs] I mean, occasionally I do get other colors and I'm like, "No." I mean, the North Face red is so iconic and is such a... And it looks good in photos. It always pops against a natural backdrop. Like, it's, it's just, it's perfect. You don't mess with perfection. The North Face has you covered. [gentle music] I woke up every day wondering if something was gonna happen to you. You know, it's like when you're a producer and director on a project that you're pushing along every single day, it's like what every great alpinist and climber has to think about, like what's worst-case scenario? Because if you're not thinking about worst-case scenario and how you're gonna deal with it, you're kinda not doing your job.
