Jacob Charlton of Thornhill
5/29/20261 hr 6 min
On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jacob Charlton of Thornhill. After opening for Sleep Token on their massive North American arena tour last year, Thornhill quickly captured the attention of the heavy scene. Now, however, they’re in the midst of their own headliner, dubbed the Mercia Tour, presented by our friends at Revolver. While on the run, the frontman stopped by the Artist Friendly studio to dig into the grind of touring, the intentionality behind heavy music today, the evolution of Thornhill across their records, 2022’s Heroine and 2025’s Bodies, and what it takes to keep a band together for the long haul.

It's hard to be in the moment, and I find myself, a lot of the time, even on stage, not being in the moment.

Yeah.
Jacob Charlton· Guest0:41
I'm going, "Oh, my voice felt like this today."
Joel Madden· Host0:44
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jacob Charlton· Guest0:44
"I can't hit this note today. I have to rely on this today," and I'm, like, doing that, and then you get to, like, an easier song for us, let's say, like Silver, and you get that crowd reaction, or you get that kid come across and you catch them, and you put them down, and then I go, "Oh, wait, this isn't about me."
Joel Madden· Host1:01
Bad times, I don't wanna have bad. When did you guys get over here?
Jacob Charlton· Guest1:07
Two days ago.
Joel Madden· Host1:08
Okay.
Jacob Charlton· Guest1:09
Yeah, yeah.
Joel Madden· Host1:09
How's it feeling?
Jacob Charlton· Guest1:10

Uh, but it's also very stressful, and trying to fit it all in a trailer. I mean, I'm saying this, but I didn't do
