Is the Women's Six Nations competitive enough?

4/22/202646 min

The Women’s Six Nations is pulling in record crowds and viewing figures, but is the tournament itself keeping pace? Ugo, Sara and Philippa Tuttiett discuss whether there needs to be more emphasis on the rugby than the spectacle. Sean Lynn is still searching for a first Six Nations win as Wales boss and with the Red Roses up next, we look at how they should approach the match and what would constitute success. Ireland have revenge on their mind as they head to France this week. It's the first meeting since their controversial World Cup quarter-final. Anna Caplice joins us to debate how the Irish should be approaching a match full of emotion.

[whooshing] Five Lives Rugby Union Weekly. Philippa Tutty at how many tattoos do you have?

  2. Philippa Tuttiett· Guest0:08

[laughs] Well, that was not the opener I was expecting. A big fat zero.

  3. Sara· Host0:13

Okay. This might be one for you, Ugo. How many tattoos have you got?

  4. Ugo Monye· Host0:17

    I've got a lot, genuinely.

  5. Philippa Tuttiett· Guest0:19

    Have you?

  6. Ugo Monye· Host0:20

Couldn't even tell you how many. Um, and not all of them visible. I'll leave you with that.

  7. Sara· Host0:26

Okay. Well, you have discussed tattoos before here on Rugby Union Weekly- Yeah ... but my big question for you is, would you let Ellie Kildunne tattoo you after she has completed playing a test match, as was requested by a member of the crowd at Murrayfield?

  8. Philippa Tuttiett· Guest0:43

    Wow.

  9. Ugo Monye· Host0:44

Um, I've actually got two tattoos which, um, have been designed by my daughters. It's their handwriting. So, I mean, I wouldn't... I mean, they- they're pieces of art. I mean, like it's in the eye of the beholder, isn't it? Would I allow Ellie? Got a safe pair of hands, hasn't she? Maybe I would, yeah. Go on then.

  10. Philippa Tuttiett· Guest1:06

She's a safe pair of hands.

  11. Sara· Host1:08

[laughs] Well, this was it. So in the Murrayfield crowd, there was a sign that went up that said, "Ellie, tattoo me." [laughs] So we know she tattooed Jon Mitchell after the World Cup final.

  12. Philippa Tuttiett· Guest1:20

    Mm.

  13. Sara· Host1:20

But could we see this becoming a thing?

  14. Ugo Monye· Host1:23

Well, yeah, I think just as long as you've got the legal documents and the disclaimers.

  15. Philippa Tuttiett· Guest1:28

    Yeah.

  16. Ugo Monye· Host1:28

[laughs] 'Cause you don't want anyone
