How to Win by Giving Value to Local Retailers
4/15/202648 min
In this episode of the GaryVee Audio Experience, I sit down with the Hobby Nonsense crew to discuss the massive shift happening in the trading card world. I dive deep into why I believe fictional character "rookie cards" are the most undervalued assets in the hobby today and why a character like Spongebob has more staying power than a retired athlete. I also share the strategy behind the new VeeFriends Super Sticker Spectacular launch and why supporting local card shops is the key to long-term success.
You’ll learn about:
- The launch of the VeeFriends Super Sticker Spectacular
- Why I’m prioritizing local retail stores over direct sales
- The massive upside of vintage fictional character cards
- My 40-year vision for building VeeFriends into a global IP

I have from day one, because I grew up in a retail store, a liquor store, that also had to fight for allocations of hard-to-get wines, I have prioritized retail stores from day one. And what retail stores have done is I've gone first and showed love to them to the best of my ability first, and they've reciprocated twofold. And I think a lot of people shit on retail stores because they don't realize they're trying to extract value from retail stores instead of giving them value. This is the Gary Vee Audio Experience.
Speaker 1· Guest0:27

Gary Vaynerchuk· Host0:30
It's good to see you guys.
Speaker 1· Guest0:31
Hey, good to see you again. Um, Gary, I don't know if you can see us. Sometimes you have to, uh ... If you ... Right where about my finger is, if you, like, move the mouse over it, there's, like, a little pin. Uh, if you click that, you can ... It'll expand us. You'll see both. Um, I'm gonna do the same on our side so I can see you fully. All right. So you have been on the Sports Cards Nonsense podcast before with myself and Mike.
Gary Vaynerchuk· Host1:00
Yep.
Speaker 1· Guest1:00

Speaker 1· Guest1:16
Right.
Gary Vaynerchuk· Host1:16
I'm very excited about it.
Speaker 1· Guest1:17

Ray· Host1:18
That's right.
Speaker 1· Guest1:18
Those kinds of comments need to be saved until the recording starts. [laughs] So let's go ahead and just get that kicked off. All right. I'm gonna go ahead and just hit record. I know, I understand you've got, like, 20 minutes.
Gary Vaynerchuk· Host1:27
